Cliff Fletcher

Cliff Fletcher has raised a few eyebrows this off-season. He has gotten Schenn, Mayers - big guys with brusing hits. Got rid of Wellwood, Raycroft, and Tucker. And may get rid of Pavel Kubina. Fletcher has finally done what the Leafs need most - that is getting rid of the old, bringing in the new. A complete change. Fletcher will most likely get rid of a couple of more players (Sundin and company) before the beggining of the season.

No more bandaids. Fletcher recognizes that you cannot fix the Maple Leafs Organization by applying temporary remedies (signing one guy here and there - Blake). Fletcher is clearly giving the Maple Leafs a new start. He, in my opinion, is using the 'build a strong foundation and let the rest happen by itself' philosophy.

To those who say it's too risky and that Fletcher may be bringing down the Leafs even more I say take a look at the Montreal Canadiens in the late 90's. The Canadiens, then, faced a similar situation to the Leafs, and now look at them! Top of the East.

Many fans, have expressed opinions that they are willing to wait that long for 'a good product'. Congrats to Fletcher. It is not easy being the GM of one of the most insane hockey cities, with unforgiving fans. My suggestion to him is to stick with it. Keep getting new players, and get rid of the old.

At this rate, the Leafs will be the Marlies with all the players we are getting rid of :p. But that's ok... my feeling is that the Leafs would want to do poorly in order to get Tavares.

Fans... we're going to have to wait another good 5 years or so before we will be good again.
