New Best Goal Keeper?

After the Spain and Italy, quarter-final game, the debate for the new best soccer goal keeper has began.

Iker Casillas, Gianluigi Buffon, and Petr Cech have all been the world's best keepers for the best few years.

Because of Cech's dismal performance against the Turkish offense, Cech can be ruled out as the very top keeper.

The quarter-final game provided massive amounts of insight on the keeper situation. Although throughout the normal time of the game, Buffon made 6 saves and Casillas made 3 saves, the better keeper in many eyes is believed to be Casillas. This is because of his heroics in the very dramatic penalty shots. Casillas stopped the likes of Daniele De Rossi (Roma) and Antonio Di Natale (Udinese), allowing Cesc Fàbregas to step up and send his side through.

Because of these incredible saves, Iker Casillas is believed by many to be the best keeper in the world.

So now it is up to you. Who do you think is the best keeper in the world right now?

Gigi is still the best in the world until FIFA....

agreed rafi. Buffon was the saviour of Italy against Romania. His save allowed them to have hope in advancing to the quarter finals. Gigi also has plenty of experience over the other 2 goalies.

No doubt that Buffon is the best goalie in the world.

I definitely agree with that as well. Though Casillas is good, Buffon is just that much better.

Also I'd like to point out that Van Der Saar should be up there amongst the top keepers. I personally feel he is greatly underrated. He has done well for both the Dutch at this year's Euro and for Manchester United. He has also shown the class and the skill that would put him up in the top tier.

cech shouldnt be ruled out...
if john terry made his penalty shot and chelsea wouldve won the champions league he would have been the hero for saving the best player in the worlds shot (c ronaldo)

my soccer coach agrees with kenneth. He says Casillas is the best goalie in the world right now. This whole goalie controversy can never be found out. On the one hand, Buffon faces more challenges in his club matches as he does not play for the highest ranked team. Buffon often has to bail his team out.

On the other hand, Casillas faces less shots every game because he plays for Real Madrid.

In international play, Italy's defense is extremley poor (they do not have cannavaro), while Spain's defense is stellar as we saw against Russia - Casillas faced one tough header, that was it.

My guess is still Buffon.
