Raptor Trade Rumor?

O.K.

So Indiana is looking to trade its key-forward, Jermaine O'Neal. The Toronto Raptors are looking to acquire this star, but are they willing to give up too much?

To Toronto:
Jermaine O'Neal

To Indiana:
T.J. Ford
1st Round Pick (17th)
Rasho Nesterovic

Raptors.... What are you thinking?
Jermaine O'Neal has missed 122 games over the last four years, mostly because of a troublesome left knee. His contract is equal to the gross national product of Equador. (This means his salary is alot). And Trading the first round pick? Why? when the draft is so deep this year... There is the possibility of drafting Georgetown Star Roy Hibbert.

Raptors this is a bad trade

i disagree. tj ford is going to be gone anyway. calderon is the point guard of the future. at least we'll get something for him. jermaine o'neal, when healthy is one of the best big-men in the league. imagine a front-court of bosh and JO. Our defense would be improved exponentially. I personally don't think the Raptors are giving up enough.

I disagree, this trade isn't that bad as you say.

Pacer officials say that J O neal's knee is completely healthy, and even if he isn't Ford isn't that healthy himself which of course hurts his trade value. Rasho's not that great of a centre, and his contract is pretty big as well, 9 Million next year I think. If J O neal is healthy this is a great deal, I mean imagine a front court of J O Neal, Bosh and Moon when all are completely healthy, as well as bargnani in the mix and he improves, Raptors can easily get 50 wins next year.

However Let's be negative let's say J O neal's knee isn't healthy and this was a completely bad trade, well 2010 is where a lot of big names are on free agency, (Wade anyone?) and that's when J o neal's contract is up which opens up a lot of cap space, and they could also use it to re-sign bosh because bosh will be a free agent as well.

The raptors have the 17th draft Pick, usually the top 5 picks are certain that they will make a decent if not great contribution to their respective teams, but after that it's pretty much luck. So I don't think the 17th pick is that valuable.

I agree that htis trade is not a good idea for the Raptors, and that it's a good thing it fell apart.

Jermaine O'Neal is passing 30 years old, and last time I checked, players' knees don't get better with age. O'Neal hasn't played more than 70 games since the 03-04 season and last season he only averaged a 14-7 in the games he did play in. If the Raptors do get 70+ games out of him, there's no telling how effective he'd be. The Raptors would get to the 2nd round MAYBE for the next two years, then be forced to rebuild again.

Salary-wise, Nesterovic's contract comes off the books next season and TJ Ford is already being talked about in many other deals. Plus the 17th pick in the draft this year isn't exactly going to be a dud. There will still be good prospects available like Roy Hibbert, Donte Greene or JaVale McGee. If they want to play it safe they can pick up another Kris Humphries in Robin Lopez who can eat up solid minutes at PF and C.

If the Raptors are going to package the pick and TJ Ford, they can get a much smaller risk and a much better reward for him. Although HIGHLY unlikely, how about this trade with the Heat: TJ Ford, Jamario Moon, Rasho Nesterovic, Roko Ukic and the 17th pick for Mark Blount's Awful Contract, Udonis Haslem and the 2nd pick. DO IT Pat Riley!

well... it looks like the trade that has some people excited, and others demoralized has occured.

Raptors trade:
T.J.
Rasho
1st round (17th)

for:

Jermaine O'Neal

Raptors now have no first round picks.
Jermaine O'Neal is set to make 21 million.

How is this possibly a good trade?

how is it not????

Jermaine Oneal is better than any center in the eastern conference.

And why do we need Nesterovic? He's just a bigger bosh? And who cares about a draft pick that might not even be good (like our friend bargnani). Tj, like Sheldon says, is going away anyways.

This is a great trade for the raps. They are now true contenders. Oneal brings experience to the Raps (garnett, and ray allen did the same for the celtics).

The raptors will not be the 'weak defensive rebounding team' anymore.

And plus, Oneal will score more than Rasho and TJ combined every game.
