Wellwood to the Canucks

The Canucks recently claimed Kyle Wellwood off waivers. The centreman, who will add skill, and quick-thinking to a thin Canucks lineup, will no longer be available on the free agent market.

The Leafs, clearly could not trade Wellwood, and decided on putting him on waivers. With a terrible season full of injuries, Wellwood was no longer useful to the Maple Leafs.

However, some say that Wellwood is useful to the Leafs. He has shown promise, and at times, has seemed to be worthy on the Leaf's first line. Getting rid of Raycroft and Tucker is understandable, but was giving Wellwood away a smart decision?

Wellwood is full of promise. I think he should have stayed.

actually?

Wellwood to Canucks is legit!
He can now centre the line of the Sedins.

Canucks finally have a legit playmaker.

Mike Gillis's first great move

Leafs definitely SHOULD NOT have put Wellwood on waivers. Tucker and Raycroft I can understand but Wellwood! Okay I can understand, Wellwood has hit the injury bug for two straight seasons but understand that this guy is only 25, and he definitely has a lot of gas in the tank.

If Wellwood pulls a Steve Sullivan with the Canucks a lot of Leaf fans are going to be mad pissed.

It is really disappointing to see him go but it was also just as disappointing to see Wellwood not fulfill expectations of being that solid second line centre man.

Hiten's right though. Wellwood's laziness/lack of commitment to off ice training during his time off most definitely played a role in Fletcher's decision to waive him.
